The sport of cheerleading has changed a lot over the years. Cheerleading is very competitive and their jobs are to make the stunts look easy even when they are difficult. Cheerleading takes a lot of practice whether you are the flyer or part of the base. Many of the difficult cheerleading stunts are actually many stunts added together The best thing to do is to make sure the team works well together and master the basic stunts. Some of the difficult cheerleading stunts are as follows: basket toss, 2:2:1 Pyramids, the Superman, Flip or Round about, and advanced dismounts. Gaining trust and practicing with ones squad is the best way to become experts at the advanced stunts.

First, the basket toss is considered an advanced cheerleading stunt. Two bases create the basket by gabbing their wrists and making a basket like shape. Then there needs to be two spotters which are placed in the front and in the back. At that point the flyer will place their feet in the basket and the bases toss the flyer into the air. The flyers will at that point do a trick, such as a toe touch, while flying in the air.

Then, there is the 2:2:1 pyramid and those are pyramids that are about three stories high. This advanced stunt is not seen that much these days because of the mat regulation. Cheerleading organizations have regulated the stunts by requiring that groups perform with thick mats underneath them. In the competitions that these are seen in, it is required that there are four bases and plenty spotters. Two of the bases on the end throw the flyer into the air about shoulder height. The two bases in the middle take their flyers and throw them into a full extension. Then, the flyer in the middle will be launched into the air and is supported by the second level flyers.

There are also other ways to add elements to difficult stunts. There are advanced tricks such as the superman and flip or round about. The superman is done by having two flyers and throwing them up and then the other falls back in a superman like position with their arms extended. There is also the flip or round about where a there are two people that are brought together to form a full pyramid. In this stunt there is a need for an odd amount of flyers. There are also advanced dismounts such as a full lay out twist.

In the 2014 World University Cheerleading Championships All girl team cheer finals the Champions were University of Colorado and runner ups were Texas State University. The competition was defiantly one to be at. It was a very competitive competition. The University of Colorado was most known for their advanced loads and when they mounted into the pyramids they were flawless with their full layout twists. Texas State University’s dismounts were perfected with many pop and tucks. Anyone could see that they were fit with all the round off back handsprings and perfected basket tosses.
